Assassins (1995)

Sylvester Stallone is the worlds best hitman. Antonio Banderas is the 2nd and feels inferior.

It starts with Stallone on a job. After making sure, what the credits probably refer to as, ‘man in wetlands’ is dead, he quickly sets up his next job which is to assassinate the police captain from Leathal Weapon at a funeral. He is about to bust a cap when Antonio turns and blows the target away instead. Stallone is pissed big time, he even went to the trouble of modifying a arm cast to conceal a gun. Just think what he could do on Pimp my Ride?

Basicly they exchange words and get on with it until it happens again. They are both sent to kill the lovely Julianne Moore. Rather than kill her Stallone decides to let her live so that he can get to Antonio. So a cat and mouse game begins until there can be only one.

Assassins is good fun and has a great pedigre. It is directed by Richard Donner (Leathal Weapon) and written by the brothers Wachowski (pre Bound and Matrix). Stallone is ok but is no Ray Tango, Rocky, Rambo, or Cobra so his role is instantly forgettible. He redoes this role with more anger and a goatee in the Get Carter remake – which I gave a second chance the other day until I realsied it really didn’t deserve it and turned it off just after he calls Michael Caine a big man who is out of shape.
